The Capitol Hill is the biggest residential neighborhood in D.C. It is also one of the most densely populated areas in Washington. It is said to have been given the name Jenkins Heights/Hills by the renowned architect Pierre L'Enfant who laid out the plans that led to the Capitol Hill being built on the hill that it now stands.
During the American Civil War, a lot of construction took place in this area, which included but not limited to the construction of hospitals.

The Lincoln National Memorial, which was built in honor of Abraham Lincoln. Built in the form of an ancient Greek temple the building houses a gigantic statue of the former president while seated down. It contains some of Lincoln's most famous speeches, such as, his second inaugural address and The Gettysburg Address. The Lincoln Memorial is also associated with Martin Luther's famous, 'I have a Dream' speech. It is a must-see site that you cannot afford to miss while in D.C.
