The Catholic University of America is one of the oldest educational institutes in Washington D.C. It is the only institution for higher learning that was set up by the Roman Catholic bishops in the United States. The education institution was established in 1887. At first it offered graduate education and research-oriented courses. It was only in 1904 that the Pope Leo XIII gave the permission to start undergraduate courses.

It is one of the best educational institutions as far as student activities are concerned. The institute has over 100 registered clubs for its students. These clubs are engaged in a variety of activities such as sports, athletics, teaching, social and religious service and political affair. At the undergraduate level, there is a Student Association, which is divided into two divisions - the planning committee and the advocacy body.

There is also a Student Fee Allocation Board for funding student activities. Student events such as music and dance competition, athletics competition, Mr. CUA contest, theatrical performances etc. take place at different times of the year. Students also bring out campus magazines, weekly newspaper and run a television channel and a radio station.

Spread over 193 acres of land, The Catholic University of America has a beautiful campus located in Brookland, Washington D.C. It is three miles from the famous US Capitol Building towards the north. The buildings have a strong dominance of Roman architecture and design. There are 55 buildings that are different institutes. there are libraries, halls, lawns, offices and chapel at different places within the campus premises.
