It is the apex judicial body of the country. The top ranking official at the Supreme Court is the Chief Justice of the United States and along with him there are 8 other Associate Justices. All of them are nominated by none other than the President and are confirmed with a majority vote in their favour by the Senate.
The judges in the Supreme Court are appointed for life if their conduct is right and the duty are terminated only on death or in case of resignation or retirement or if convicted. The court is held at the United States Supreme Court Building, Washington D.C. It is also at times called the High court and at times SCOTUS which is its acronym.

This was at the Merchant's Exchange Building, New York city. From 1791 to 1800 it functioned at the Old City Hall. The year1800 saw Washington D.C. become the capital of the United States and the Supreme Court kept changing places in the United States Capitol Building until 1935. The construction of the new building began in 1932 and was completed in 1935. The Supreme Court moved to its current location in 1935, 146 years after it came into existence.
