There are a number of neighborhoods in Washington DC, totaling 19 in number. The different neighborhoods that make up Washington DC vary from quiet rural areas with lots of greenery to family neighborhoods to activity filled urban communities.

Georgetown - Georgetown was a major port and business center during colonial times because of its key location along the Potomac River. The neighborhood is home to many upscale shops, bars and restaurants and is considered among the more stylish tourist destinations.

Dupont Circle/Embassy Row - This sophisticated district boasts some of the finer museums, historic homes and foreign embassies in Washington DC. Apart from this, there are a variety of restaurants, bookstores, and classified art galleries.

National Harbor - The 300-acre waterfront society opened in 2008. It is set along a prime spot on the Potomac River.

Rockville/Bethesda/Chevy Chase - Bethesda is home to central institutions like the National Institutes of Health etc. Rockville is the county seat and the second largest city in Maryland and Chevy Chase is primarily a residential colony of Washington, DC.
