National Building Museum
National Building Museum is one of the popular attractions of the city which you must visit during your travels to Washington. Almost all the Washington DC travel guides include a visit to this museum. This historic landmark was founded in the year 1887.
The National Building Museum in Washington D.C. is known as the museum of "architecture, design, engineering, construction, and urban planning". Created by an act of Congress, this private non-profit institution provides a large, open space to host some of the greatest exhibitions, like the Amish barn raising, green design, types of fencing, etc.
The National Building Museum is located in the former Pension Bureau building, which was designed by Gen. Montgomery C. Meigs. During your travel you can stop here to witness the architectural splendors of this museum. The interior columns of this museum are spectacular. The frieze, sculpted by Caspar Buberl, depicts the Civil War soldiers which reminds us of the Trajan's Column and the Horsemen Frieze of the Parthenon. It is noteworthy to mention that the Corinthian columns of the museum are some of the largest in the world.
