The public parking near National Mall is limited and on-street parking during rush hour is restricted. So in order to avoid the parking hassles one can opt for parking garages located in Jefferson and Madison drives in front of Smithsonian Musuem. In addition there are several on-street free parking lots available, but the parking duration is restricted only for two hours.
