White House in Washington: A Must-see Destination for Your Trip
Most people that hear the name "Washington, DC" immediately think of the White House. Therefore, this is certainly a very popular landmark in the said city. When you visit Washington, there is no way that you should miss the opportunity to drop by at the White House area.
The White House is known to be the official working place and the residence of the President of the United States. You can find this at the Pennsylvania Avenue NW. The famous house was designed by James Hoban, who was an Irish and it was built from 1792 to 1800. The style is considered to be Neoclassical and has been the place where every president lived starting from John Adams.
Before, the White House was opened to the public until the 20th century since the house became rowdy and presidents like Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson had bad experiences with thousands of citizens during inauguration. Today however, we can still visit the famed White House through the use of the daily tours but you need to queue at the sidewalk located near the Old Executive Office Building and the Treasury Building.
There are also museums and gift shops that are nearby the White House where you can view and purchase memorabilia connected to the history of the house. This is included in the list of the largest historic homes in the United States along with the Biltmore Estate and the Oheka Castle.
