The film 'Mr. Smith Goes to Washington' got the National Award in the year 1939 in the category of Best Screenplay. The fun facts of this movie are cited below:

In this film, Jefferson Smith was actually supposed to play the interesting character of Boy Scout Leader. During the shoot the real Boy Scouts came to know about this role being given to Jefferson. They grew angry and protested against it to Capra. Finally Capra had talks with them and settled the issue. But the shoot was stopped for so many days. Due to this Capra suffered huge losses.

Another funny incident that took place while shooting the film Mr. Smith Goes to Washington is that Stewarts throat got swabbed with the chemical solution that helped make his sound hoarse. This voice was well suitable for his particular character in this film.

After this, his part of the role gained him a whooping amount of 100,000 dollar from the Senate Chamber which was later used in a movie of 1962 named "Advise & Consent".
