Washington DC is the capitol city of United States. Washington is the most popular and most visited city in United States. The city is home to tourism and all types of fun activities. Washington is formally known as the District of Columbia. The city was founded in the year 1790.
Originally the city was the municipality within the federal territory. The city was within the territory until 1871, when an act of congress was established a single and unified municipal government for the whole district.
The District of Columbia doesn't have any elected city government until 1973. In 1973 an act of home rule was established which provides certain congressional power over the district to a local government administered by an elected mayor and the thirteen member council of the District of Columbia.
After the home rule act each of the city's eight wards select a member for the council. The wards also elect five members including the chairman. The Advisory Neighborhood Commission was elected by the small neighborhoods of the city. The city government considers the suggestion provided by the Advisory neighborhood Commission.
The mayor of the city and the council prepares a local budget which should be approved by the Congress. The Federal Government operates Washington City's Court system and all federal law enforcement agencies. The US park police organize the security of the city. The attorneys of the district are appointed by the president of the city. The federal government provides around 33% of the District's general revenue.
