Franciscan Monastery

Franciscan Monastery is located in Brookland, Washington DC. There are gardens and an imitation of catacombs of Rome. The monastery holds the bones of St. Benignus of Armagh, from the Roman catacombs. This holy land was envisioned by Rev. Charles Vassani. The shrines, gardens and rosary portico were constructed throughout the 1910s and 1920s. The architecture of the memorial church built in Byzantine style and the floor plan is similar to the Crusader Cross of Jerusalem.
