The area east of the Capitol and north of Massachusetts Avenue is at times called as Downtown East. But, that geographical region includes as many as nine separate areas, such as West End, Penn Quarter, Foggy Bottom, Chinatown, Mount Vernon Square, Judiciary Square, Swampoodle, Sursum Corda, and NoMa.

President's Park encompasses the White House that includes Lafayette Square between Pennsylvania Avenue and H Street. It is a private park, except for the Lafayette Square, that is open to the public. A small paved square, Freedom Plaza located on the Pennsylvania Avenue the 13th street and 14th streets. It is the main place of protests, political rallies and outdoor concerts.
