Byrd Stadium, nicknamed the Byrd cage, was the home stadium for University of Maryland till 1947. The capacity of this stadium was about 5,000 back then. The stadium is named after the head football coach in 1923 Harry Curley Byrd, who then later on became the University President. The stadium has undergone several expansion and renovation programs, with the recent expansion in 2009 costing about $50 million. The stadium now has a capacity of 73,000.
