Blair House is located at the Northwestern Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington DC. It is the official guest house for the US president. The building was constructed in 1824 by Francis Blair and has been in service for accommodating the foreign heads or guests since 1942. Queen Elizabeth II, Vladimir Putin and Margaret Thatcher were housed in this guest house in the past. The entire house is actually divided into four blocks, and has 119 rooms. You can find the Blair House in Washington DC. This is just off the corner of the Lafayette Park and is at the opposite side of the Executive Office Building. This now serves as the guest house of the President of the United States of America. In the year 1824, its main house was built so that it would become the Joseph Lovell. He was the first person to become the Surgeon General of the United States Army.

Today, the Blair House contains four linked townhouses including the first and original Blair House. Overall, the square footage of the townhouses is more than 70,000. Thus, this is larger than the White House itself, which only has about 55,000 square feet.

The Blair House has 119 rooms with 14 bedrooms for the guests, 9 bedrooms for the staff and 4 dining rooms. There are more than 30 bathrooms here as well as a hair salon, an exercise room and a flower shop.

The Blair House held important events that are part of the national and the world history. Among the most memorable event here is the meeting of President Truman with his staff before the Korean War. That said meeting gave way to the decision to make use of the American Sea on June 26. Shortly thereafter, the Korean War started.

The Blair House is also associated to the World War II particularly during the time when there was not enough space in the White House to accommodate the guests. Stanley Woodward who was the protocol chief of the Roosevelt Administration decided to buy the Blair House.

At the corner of Lafayette Park, just opposite to the Old Executive Office Building of the White House, at 1651-1653 Pennsylvania Avenue NW in Washington D.C, the grand building of Blair House is situated.

The house was built for Mr. Joseph Lovell who was the 8th Surgeon General of the United States in 1824. In 1836, Francis Preston Blair bought it and since then it is named as Blair House. In 1859, when Francis Preston built another house nearby it for his daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth Blair Lee and Captain Samuel Phillips Lee, the combined house was established by the name Blair Lee House.

Many of the prominent historical figures of the world's political regimes have stayed in and enjoyed the excellent comfort of Blair House. The list includes President Harry S Truman with his wife and daughter to Indian First Prime Minister Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru along with his daughter Indira Gandhi.

Ronald Reagan and his wife visited Blair House on 28th April 1988. Margaret Thatcher, Queen Elizabeth, Boris Yeltsin, Vladimir Putin and Pervez Musharraf are the other prominent political leaders who visited Blair House during their tenure.
