Harmony Hall
Harmony Hall is to be found in Fort Washington, Maryland, and is looked after by the United States National Park Service which falls under their National Capital Parks East scheme. Harmony Hall got enlisted as National Park Service in the year 1966. It was built in the eighteenth century, standing two and a half storey's tall, built of red brick and modeled on a Georgian country house. This was typical of the architectural style that was predominant in between 1720 and 1840.
Harmony Hall stands on an area covering 65 acres of land on Broad Creek, a tributary of the Potomac River that borders in between Maryland and Washington. Harmony Hall is the first historic district formed under Prince George's County preservation law. It is very easy to locate on any Washington travel map because of its historical connection.
Early History and Formation of Harmony Hall http://www.thingstodo.com/states/MD/nationalparks/harmonyhall.html
This house was originally built for Mr. William Tyler and the estate was initially known as Battersea. In the year 1972, two brothers, John and Walter Dulaney Addison, came to stay here with their respective wives, and the name of the manor got changed to Harmony Hall to honour the harmonious existence of the two pairs.
In 1892, the ownership of the mansion changed hands again. This time Harmony Hall was purchased by Richard and Robert Stein, and their brother-in-law, Joseph Adler. These people were into a truck farming business and had emigrated from Silesia. Though the Steins and Adler continued running a general store and a farm, they could not keep possession of Harmony Hall for too long and it was eventually sold to Charles Collins in 1929.
