Great Falls Park is located along the Potomac River, in northern Fairfax County and is a spectacular natural landmark in the Washington DC.One can enjoy variety of activities in the park including rock climbing, kayaking, hiking, horseback riding, picnicking, and bicycling. The falls cascade into 20 foot waterfalls and can be viewed from several observation areas.

The Great Falls Park is open throughout the year for visitors and tourists from 7 a.m.The bookstore and the visitor center and bookstore are open from 10 a.m.to 5 p.m. daily. In the visitor center a video presentation of 10 minutes on the history of Great Falls Park is shown throughout the day. You can explore a wide range of exhibits featuring the geology, flora and fauna, Patowmack Canal, and recreation of Great Falls. There is also a room for children which offers coloring activities, puzzles, and a hands-on exploration table. A concession stand and restrooms are located on the lower level.

Don't forget to take your bird guides and binoculars for bird watching. You can view several species of birds depending on the season and the time of day. You can watch songbirds, vultures, woodpeckers, kingfishers, herons, ducks and geese.

You can also enjoy whitewater boating with the use of canoes and whitewater kayaks. The river has hydraulics, standing waves and many currents. Boaters are advised to use helmet and Personal Flotation Device for their safety. To add buoyancy to canoes air bladders are used. All the boaters are instructed to reach the river below the falls in AA Gorge, between Overlooks 1 & 2, and Fisherman's Eddy.
