Going Down in Washington DC: Tourist Guide to L Enfant Plaza

L'Enfant Plaza has eight commercial and governmental buildings. Along with it there is a shopping mall underground. L'Enfant Plaza is located at Southwest part of Washington D.C. It is between 12th and 9th street at the south of Independence Avenue. There are basically 3 entrances out of which one has entry to the mall. There are many shopping places as well as restaurants in the underground mall. On the eastside of the promenade there is a large public garden just in front of the hotel.

The architecture of L'Enfant plaza is truly amazing. The buildings are in the brutalist style with modern architecture. L'Enfant Plaza is named after the designer Pierre L'Enfant. And this plaza is the only paved square in the city. Juts amidst the office buildings and the plaza, there is natural beauty as imparted by a central garden.

For having lunch or snacks somewhere nearby the plaza there are Cafe Mozu located at the Mandarin Oriental. It has some really amazing delicacies but the cost is a bit more. In the plaza itself, there is a place called sushi-by the pounds and many other which can be tried for meals.

L'Enfant Plaza ends at Benjamin Banneker Park. This park was the first public place in Washington which has been dedicated to an African-American. This spot was first kept for building John F. Kennedy Center of the Performing Arts. But there were some financial problems with the main project developer. And thus Kennedy's project had to find some other location.
