
Gallaudet University - Bring Knowledge to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
Gallaudet University at Washington D.C was founded in 1856 by Edward Miner Gallaudet as the Kendall school for blind and deaf students. It is a co educational school formed with federal support. Lately catering to hearing impaired the school changed its name in 1956 to Gallaudet University and in 1986 attained the University status.
Today it is the only liberal arts college for hard of hearing and deaf students in the world. With experience of more than 100 years, it boasts a long rich history in the deaf community and has the achievement of producing many leaders out of hard of hearing and deaf community. The world only university of deaf is the only place in the world where deaf people can communicate with each other effortlessly. The word disabled doesn't exist here.

Today, Gallaudet plays a crucial vital role in the lives of hard of hearing and deaf people everywhere. For these people its lot more than a place of learning and education. The campus of the university has conference center, different departments, meeting rooms, eating facilities and hotel rooms to cater to the needs of hearing impaired attendees.
The elementary school also provides tuition free education clubbed with medical, diagnosis and social services for the deaf children. On the other hand secondary school offers curriculum development, continuing education, training in physical disabilities for professionals and sign language programs.
Gallaudet University has completely translated the lives of its deaf students and headed them towards vibrant future. No wonder it is simply regarded as the heart of the deaf community.
