
Experience Europe in Washington: Enjoying A Variety Of European-Style Parks at Meridian Hill Park
Meridian Hill Park also known as Malcolm X Park is a 12 acre park located in Washington DC, neighbourhood of Columbia Heights in United States. The uniqueness of this park is that different varieties of European style parks are displayed here.
Right from French promenades to Renaissance terraces, several parks are displayed here. In order words, this place allows you to experience Europe while staying in Washington.
Construction of this park was taken up in the year 1914 but it took several years for its completion. In 1933 these grounds were transferred to the National Park Service and Meridian Hill Park was designated as National Historic landmark in 1994. Today this park is under the administration of Rock Creek Park.
One of the unique features of this park lies in its thirteen basin cascading waterfalls lying in the lower level of the garden. The recirculating water system along with delightful water staircase and terraced waterfalls is one of the key attractions in this park.
As we all know, the climate in Washington is highly seasonal and especially summers can be very hot with an average temperature of 82. Majority of tourists visit this park during this season particularly between 3pm to 9pm. Tourist gathering here try to indulge themselves in activities like dancing in the upper park or participate in drum circle.
Accommodation is also not a concern for visitors as there are several restaurants located near Meridian Hill Park. The historic Adams-Morgan neighbourhood with good number of ethnic restaurants and shops is popular choice among most tourists.
Another interesting aspect about Meridian Hill Park is that it is the home for several concerts and special events. Four sculptures serve as memorials to President James Buchanan, Jeanne d'Arc, Dante and Jose Clara's have put in their efforts in the design of this park.
