Washington's main bus service is provided by WMATA (Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority). There are buses plying to various destinations within the city limits. The buses operate 24/7 and are a great way of commuting economically.

The 1500 odd buses have a varying schedule. The metro bus stoppages are assigned with three colors; red, blue and white. The routes are denoted by number and names, on the bus's boarding end and above the windshield. There have been a few changes in the schedules as of August 23, and it is best to check them at the WMATA's official website.
