Did the Native Americans play a part in the Civil War in Washington DC

Many Native Americans served in the military during the Civil War of 1861-1865. The States were divided into two parts - the Confederacy and the Union.

Several Native American tribes supported the Confederacy as they hoped that fighting with the Whites would help them win the favor of the Government and to get rid of their discriminatory status.

The territories of Colorado, Dakota, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Washington fought on the Union side.
