Metro Extra or Route No.79 is a metro bus service which operates from Silver Spring Station to Archives. This limited stop bus line drives along 7th Street / Georgia Avenue corridor. The bus service started during 19th March, 2007 and Metro Extra fleet has 14 buses serving numerous commuters at an affordable price. Generally, these buses operate on compressed natural gas and are painted in blue & silver scheme.

This George Avenue Metro Extra line bus is an express and stops at occasional stop. Metro Extra can be regarded as bus rapid transit which is operated by Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority. But WAMTA is planning to introduce more number of metro extra lines to ease out traffic.
