Metrobus is one of the bus services which is managed and operated by Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority. The bus service has a total fleet of 1,480 buses that cover total distance of 1500 square miles in Washington DC, Virginia and Maryland. In total there are more than 300 bus routes passing through major cities on the way serving 12,216 stops that includes over two thousand three hundred bus shelters.
During the year 2009, the Metrobus served commuters with 133 million trips. On an average the bus service provide 400,000 trips during weekdays. The commuters can use smartrip cards to receive transfer discounts on rail and bus rides. For commuters convenience the Metrobus offers affordable passes.
