As per the 2007 U.S. Census, the ethnic distribution among the population was as following
- Black - 55.6%
- White - 36.3%
- Hispanic - 8.3%
- Others (Native Americans, Hawaiians, Alaskans, Pacific Islanders) - 5%
- Asian - 3.1%
- Mixed - 1.6%
In spite of the black population dominating the charts, records show steady decline among the black population in the city owing to several African Americans moving out of the city. And the city has seen a steady increase among its Caucasian population. The Salvadoran is the largest among the Hispanic group in Washington, DC.
