The campus is in the residential community of Brookland in Northeast Washington which is also known as little Rome and contains 60 catholic institutions. The campus is 193 acres. The buildings in the campus reflect Romanesque architecture and modern designs.

The Columbus School of Law is one the main campus with chapel, moot courtrooms, classrooms, a library, and offices. The United State's national seminary, Theological College, is located between the Dominican House of Studies. The University expanded the north side of the campus by adding three new dorms. The first dorm is the Opus Hall which is seven-story tall, housing 420 upper-class students.

The Campus is on the Red Line of the Washington Metro is served by the Brookland-CUA station. Smithsonian, Capitol Hill, and the Union Station are near by. Near campus are the Franciscan Monastery, Pope John Paul II Cultural Center, and the offices of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. Catholic University of America is home to various research institutes.

The University conducts active programs for environment sustainability, including Casey Tree Planting and Earth Day.
