A vacation to the capital of the United States would be just perfect. It is an ideal place to enjoy your holidays and loads of things to do. You can even keep the kids busy as they too would enjoy the sightseeing and travel here.

If you are planning to travel to Washington D.C. by plane then the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport would be best suited. The airport is actually in Arlington but that is the closest you can get to Washington by plane. About $15 is what the taxi would charge you to get to the capital city from Arlington, Virginia.

The next option would be the Washington Dulles International Airport. The airport is about 42 km away from the downtown of Dulles, Virginia. From there you would have to either take a taxi or a bus to get to Washington. There are also Washington Flyer coaches available that ply every 30 minutes. If you are taking any flight out of the Washington Dulles Airport be sure that you check in well on time as they are pretty strict about closing the counters a good one hour prior to departure. The best and cheapest option would be the Metro bus from the Dulles airport.

The airport that is farthest away from Washington D.C. is the Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport. Although this airport would not be the ideal choice if you want to get to Washington quickly, the experience you would have here is par excellence.

From the airport you can catch the Metro bus to get to D.C. A 30 minutes drive would get you to D.C. You can also opt for metro rail or even hire a taxi to get to the capital city. Washington and travel go hand in hand. To get to Washington D.C. if you travel by plane would mean that you would have to further travel by bus, taxi or metro rail to get to your destination.
