There are three airports located nearby Washington DC, with varying level of hassle-free access. Ronald Reagan National Airport(DCA/KDCA) is the closest and is just three miles from center of the district. In order to make it to Washington DC from the airport, you can hire a taxi or just take metro, yes there is a 'metro shop' at the airport.

You can even take 'Super Shuttle' from 5:30 AM until 12:30 AM and the tickets for shuttle services can also be purchased from the airport.

Dallas International(IAD/KIAD) is another major airport which is located in Dulles of Virginia and is around twenty three miles from the district of Washington DC. Presently, metro is not running to Dulles, but yes you can take 'Washington Flyer Express Bus' for just 8 dollars to the stop of 'Falls Church Metro'.
