Ballston Common Mall

The Ballston Common Mall was originally known as the Parkington Shopping Center, when it opened it 1951 and was one of the first key inhabited shopping centers in Washington DC. This was the first instance of a shopping center being built in the United States with a glamorous multi-storey parking garage around it. The Ballston Common Mall is situated at the juncture of Wilson Boulevard and Glebe Road in the Ballston neighborhood of Arlington.

The Parkington Shopping Center got refurnished at a total cost of 40 million dollars and formally opened as the Ballston Common mall on October 20, 1986. The mall stood on an area of 530,000 square feet and had been formed on the basis of a limited partnership with May Centers, an auxiliary of the May Company.
