Anderson Houses/Anderson House
Anderson House was constructed from 1902 to 1905 in the centre of Dupont Circle, which at that period of time was the most chic neighborhood in Washington DC. A Boston based company, Arthur Little and Herbert Browne built this mansion as the winter home of Larz Anderson III, an American Diplomat and his author wife Isabel Weld Perkins, who was also a volunteer at the American Red Cross.
The fifty room mansion is without doubt one of the greatest creations of Little and Browne. When built originally, the property included tennis courts, a carriage house, walled gardens and a three storey stable. The diverse interiors of this mansion were built on Italian and English influence. These included hand carved wooden walls, elaborate marble floors and flamboyant iron stair cases. The house was well stocked with all the most modern amenities like clothes dryers with pull out racks, central heat, elevators, electricity and central heat.
